Microwaves are one of those things you just can’t live without. So what happens when you push the start button and the mircowave sparks at you, runs for a second and then quits? You push the button again, right? And when it does the same thing, you push cancel and the minute button and it works. All problems solved…until a few minutes pass and you try to run it again, it sparks and runs, but your food doesn’t heat. The next day, you try it again…still no heat. So I guess it’s in the plans to get a new microwave, because no one could ever live without one! 🙂

So, this is exactly what happened on Monday night. On Tuesday Zach tried it again and still it would run with a weird noise, but no heat. So, we went to Best Buy and bought a new one. You’d think the darn things would be fairly simple to install and that they would all go up the same. Nope. That would be too easy. Took us a while to get the old one down, because is wasn’t up the way the new one would be, but we didn’t know what was keeping it up. Then we go to get the bracket for the new one on the wall, except you need a drill. No problem we have two. Oh, but wait, the nice one that we like is at Zach’s work, for some unknown reason. Oh well, we can use the old one……except it’s not charged. Oh, but it can be plugged in and work at the same time. We’re back in business…until we have to drill holes in the wall before inserting the screws. And guess what else made it to Zach’s work but not back home? Yep, you’ve got it, all of our drill bits. So we were done for the night. We decided for our lunch break the next day we’d continue the project….I mean how hard could it be?

Zach comes home for lunch the next day and we get to work. Well, mainly him because I had to work. I don’t get three-four hour lunch like he does, so I was working until he needed me. We get the bracket up, but the instructions state over and over that “at least one wood screw must be drilled into a stud in section E.” Well, in section E, only one bracket hole was on a stud, and the first screw we tired to screw into our already drilled hole striped before we could get it in…we still had about an inch to get in. So I took the wrench and got it out. The next screw, started to strip, so we took the wrench and tried to get it in with that and guess what??? Zach broke the head off. So now we have a screw half way in the wall with no head and it’s the only hole we can use. Pretty frustrating. After a short debate and some banging on the screw, we decided to leave it. If we could get the microwave on and it not touch the screw then there was no sense in stressing about it.

Then came the holes in the cabinet and the filler blocks. Haha….Zach was so mad. Insisted that you need to be a carpenter to put a microwave in. 🙂 Well, it took some effort, but we got it up. And then re-heated the Bacon for BLT’s….the only real reason we needed a microwave. We’d cooked up 3lbs of bacon the day the mircowave stopped working, so all we’d have to do to make a BLT was heat it for 10 seconds. Hmm….I think I’m going to go make myself a BLT. Sounds pretty good right about now. 🙂

No Worries.

We are done! If you know me at all you know I’ve been working on tiling my downstairs since May. It’s been a long tediacious process, but I’m happy to announce it’s done and the furniture is back down there. A few random facts:

  • Before tiling we had a guest room with a queen size bed….much of the downstairs furniture got moved in that room, then my parents needed a bed for my Grandpa to sleep on and now I can’t believe it was a guest room…..it’s more like a junk room!
  • Our front room now feels very……lonely? Weird? We went from having both our couches in there to just the smallest one and it feels like something’s missing. We went to dinner with my in-laws and when we walked in the door I told Zach, “It’s like some one moved out.”
  • Jake, the snake, finally gets to be a part of the family. He has a place in the living room, instead of the guest room.

Well, here are some photos…..I know you all want to see how great it looks. 🙂

First….last weekend after being done laying the tiles….

Today before moving furniture down: Grout is done, trim and the walls have been painted (re-touched).

With furniture, I have a black cover that goes over the dogs cage, looks much better, but it was so dusty, so it is being washed.

Don’t mind the red dragon…..Zach picked it up at is Grandma’s and it is for a white elephant gift. 🙂

The sad room that is missing it’s couch. 😦 Oh well, it’ll have a christmas tree soon enough.

Oh, and some old photos from last week or the week before. We took the blankets out of the dogs cage and washed them and then they were laying on the floor next to the bed. Guinness was so sad they weren’t in his cage, but looked so cute, so I had to take a picture:

And….I was driving over the Dam Road a few weeks ago. It was beautiful with the tree changing and the sun setting….but I was driving…..and it is the dam road, so I try not to look too much, but I did hold my camera up and take a few shots. 🙂 They don’t do it justice, but you get the idea.

Okay, night all……I’m going to sit downstairs and watch TV!!! That’s a first for the last six months. 🙂

Just Another Day

At the dog park. 🙂

I talked Zach into taking the dogs to the dog park yesterday before we began our tiling for the day. More about that later. We hadn’t been to the dog park in a couple of months I think, so the dogs really needed it. And I must say, Guinness was better than ever! He had a few mishabs…..ran up to another dog with his teeth showing and ended up with a mouthful of white hair. Totally scared him. The other dog was big and fluffy and didn’t notice he was missing any hair, so that was good. Another time, Guinness did his normal greeting of “Let me run as fast as I can into you, doesn’t that feel good?” and it was an older dog, who was quite stunned. I don’t know why he does that, but it’s always just to play. Then as we were going back to the car, Guinness is typically back on his leash by now, but now this time, a little boston terrier came over and was playing with the two dogs. It was so cute. Then Guinness walked right through about 10 dogs to the car. It was great. Anyway. Here are the pics:

Fall is in the air:

This is what the dogs hate about the dog park. Bath is always as soon as we get home, especially yesterday after running through the black muddy wetlands. It took three shampoos each before the water ran clear!

Anyway, productive weekend….for tiling at least. We have everything laid, meaning stuck to the ground, except 7 tiles, some of those tiles are halves and some just bitty pieces, so it’s really like 4.5 tiles. It feels good. I’m so excited to get it done and start grouting and get my furniture back down there. SO EXCITED!!!! Maybe before the end of October.

We also had dinner with Ron on Friday and dinnerish with my parents on Saturday. Zach watched the Broncos lose terribly. And I froze….the weather is changing and I don’t always fair well. 🙂 Hope you all had a great weekend as well.

Old and Gray.

Zach went gray on me today.  I don’t know if I’m ready for my husband to be old.  😦

At least he is still HOT, huh?

Just kidding…..he cut tiles all day and the dust covered his hair.  I thought it was funny, he didn’t really agree.

Productive day…..lots of house work, cleaning, painting, tile cutting, and dinner cooking.  I feel good.  Also got a lot of homework done.  Now, to relax with my 3rd alcoholic beverage of the day. 🙂

Mixed Messages.

Today was a long day. Zach and I got into an argument last night as we were going to bed and sometimes I can be so irrational. Yes, I know this, and can typically see it at the time, but something keeps me from being rational. I won’t go into details, but it’s an argument that we have quite often, but I feel best about our resolution last night. It’s funny, because there wasn’t really a resolution, but it feels different. And I have to say, I’ve got a pretty amazing husband, who when dead exhausted from a rough week will come downstairs and get me and isn’t angry….just calm and patience. Thank you Zach!

Anyway, that whole thing started my sleeping a bit off, but then I had to do this conference call with some classmates this morning. For those of you who don’t know me well, I HATE talking on the phone. I avoid it at almost all costs. So, I woke up a lot during the night stressing about the fact that I had to wake up early to talk to people I don’t even know. I get up, call in, and we’re having technical issues. I’m fine, but one of the girls can’t log into the WebEx (something to do with Windows Vista, that they never resolved) and one girl never showed up. I got tried of listening to the technical help, so I told them to let me know when they were done. It was a pain in the neck. But we got our assignment done and turned in. YAY. I like getting things accomplished. While I was doing school, Zach cleaned the fish tank…..good think….last night when I was sitting on the couch pouting, it was glowing neon green in the dark. I don’t think fish tanks are supposed to do that.

We were going to cut tile today, but needed to actually get the tile. On the way to the store, I got a really bad headache and then I became moapy. Funny, because Zach was in one of the best moods I’ve seen him in in a long time. After Home Depot we went to Target and managed to only get what we came for. At home, Zach gave me a neck, back massage and we napped until it was time for dinner.

Zach’s mom had invited us to dinner last night. So, we had a very enjoyable dinner at Sweet Tomatoes. And they had Apple Crisp again, with no cherries. Mmmm…

Then we came home, put our new shelving together:

We fixed the curtains (standing on stools and drilling is one of Zach’s favorite things) that have been unlevel and falling off the wall for months.

I wish I’d taken a picture before we fixed them, because, between the fact that they were falling off, the mini-blinds underneath are broken from the dogs looking out the window and the box fan, it all looked pretty darn ghetto.  See after curtains were removed, still ghetto:

Thankgoodness it’s all fixed. I’ve wanted it fixed for quite some time, but laziness gets in the way. I also cleaned our ceiling fan, which led to the comforter needing to be washed. I don’t know how a fan that is constantly moving can get so much dust on it. It was horribly gross. Yuck!Zach is playing football in the guest room. Waiting for me to come in, so I can play Pogo and he can play football and we can listen to Harry Potter #7. Beautiful way to spend the evening. I don’t know why I felt the need to give you all a list of my day, but I did. I wanted to get it out there and there it is. Hmmm….

Middle of September

This weekend was busy. My Grandma turned 80 on Friday, so we drove across town to have dinner with her and my aunt and uncle at Olive Garden. Wasn’t very eventful, but it was enjoyable.

Mother and Daughter (Grandma and my mom).

Girls. My cousin Paige, Me, Stacy, Grandma and Mom.

My Uncle Chris.

My Uncle Chris and Aunt Cyndy.

My cousin Paige.

After dinner, since we were already across town, we went to Stacy’s dorm. Man, does she have a nice place. Three dorm rooms, two bathrooms, laundry room, nice kitchen and living area – 5 people. What more could college students want? Anyway, Stacy wanted me to show her something on the computer, so we went into her room and left Zach in the living area. We heard the TV on, but when we were done, this is how we found Zach:

Saturday was another busy day. Or so it seemed. We woke up late, did a bit of shopping and came home to cut Zach’s hair (yes, it’s the first time I’ve done it in months), got ready and headed out to a B-day party for Keri, my bestest Gateway friend. I’m not posting a lot of the pictures here, because I don’t know most of the people…..they were pictures for Keri. Anyway, after the group photo, Amanda (another teacher from Gateway that started last year with Keri and I) offered to take a picture of Zach and I. That was nice of her. Most of the time it’s like, here take my photo please. 🙂

After dinner, we all went bowling. It was fun and I probably drank more beer than I ever have, but it wasn’t fun being around a bunch of drinking people I don’t know and not drinking, so I went the cost effective route and shared a pitcher with Zach. Anyway, this is the only photo from bowling.

Me, Keri, Corrie (Gateway teacher who I work with on Thursdays with the Newspaper.)

I was the last one bowling. We had two frames left and everyone put there shoes back on, so I bowled for everyone and was just getting to my 10th frame with the place shut down. I was pretty bummed. But for someones 10th frame I got a strike and a spare. 🙂

Yesterday we tiled. Minor confrontation with my father, but I’m not ready to discuss online yet. But we got 11 tiles laid and are now done with all the tiles that do not need to be cut. YAY! Now we have to figure out how we are going to cut the tiles and get going on that. I guess my new goal is my birthday. Think we can get the TV and couch back downstairs by my birthday?

Happy Running

Today was a good day, but I’m beat.  I went with Zach to Great Clips to get his hair cut, (I know, I know, I normally cut it, but it’s been over six weeks and we just haven’t gotten around to it.  It’s the clean up.), anyway, after he was done he came over to me to leave and I could barely stand up, he had to pull me up and then I kinda wobbled to the car.  I suppose it was funny, but I felt ridiculous.  I guess running kinda kicked my butt today, but it’s all good.  I’m still enjoying it and my calves are looking mighty nice.  Too bad I don’t wear more dresses. 🙂

So I went to Gateway today.  It was great to be around students again.  I really, really do miss them, and I miss the interaction with people.  I mean today I sat in this big office with four other people total, and that was only at one point, most of the day it was three of us.  I never thought about that when I worked there before, I guess your perspective changes over time.  Just like, I really don’t care that I’m giving up two hours of my life once a week and not getting paid for it, but last year I’d have thrown a fit.  Hmmm….  I hope the student are okay with me hanging around.  I hope Corrie is okay with it.  I hope that the students realize it is still her class (and I think they do).  I hope we all get along all year.  I hope I’m a blessing to Corrie and not a burden.  I hope this keeps me happy until I go back.  I hope school is everything I’m looking for.  I hope leaving teaching for a few years doesn’t come back to haunt me.

Zach laid eight tiles today!  YAY!!!  They look great and we are slowly getting closer.  If it didn’t get so darn hot in the house, if we didn’t have Zach’s math and if we could both stay healthy on the same days we’d be done already.  Argh.  But it’ll come.

Funny, I started this blog to write about Running and what happened, more about other crap than running.  Well, I can run walk twoish miles every other day.  I think that’s pretty good for a person who was convinced a few month ago that she’d never be able to run because of her messed up ankles.  Yes, my ankle has bugged me a bit the last two times, but it’s not keeping me down.  On a side note, now that I’ve commited to this grand running program…..watch me get pregnant and have to stop.  Ha!  Okay, I’m not pregnant for those who are now freaking out.  Only God knows when that will happen, so stop asking. 🙂  I’m just always thinking of excused to stay fat and un-fit. 🙂  I’m an over-thinker.

To bed I go and it's oh, so early, but as I stated earlier, I'm beat and no one really reads these anyway, so I don't suppose it needs to be a book.  Good night all!

School starts in a week.  I’m a bit nervous to go back to school, but as I was reminded last night, I’ve only been away for two years, so it shouldn’t be that bad.  I got all my books on Tuesday…..they just make me smile.  Man, do I love books!

Most anyone who is around us, knows we are tiling our downstairs.  This is a massive project that we wanted done at the beginning of the summer and is now in hopes of being finished by the end of Bronco preseason. *fingers crossed*  So…..Monday I was exhausted.  Zach had been kept me up the night before being sick, we won’t go into details, but it’s the first time since we’ve been married that one of us has left the room to sleep.  Dad called that evening and wanted to fix the wall (don’t ask), so he came over.  He also took back the frige I’d borrowed for teaching, his dolly, and our guest bed (for my Grandpa to sleep on next week when he is at their house).  It was nice to get some of that stuff taken care of.  I’m hoping my parents keep the bed for a while so I can use the guest room as sorting spot to get the rest of the house in order.

Yesterday, Zach and I talked about how our house it driving us nuts.  It’s cluttery, dusty and disorganized.  And I don’t know when it happened.  Anyway, this is what we accomplished last night:
* Zach and Hanna laid three tiles.
* I cleaned out the office and threw a bunch of stuff away.
* I cleaned the kitchen, did dishes, etc.
* We removed some “old” food from the fridge.
* Zach did laundry, which cleaned up our room termendously.
I know it doesn’t sound like a lot, but I felt like we did great.  Especially, because we never really do any work when we get home from work, and I was extermely whiny last night, which threatened to ruin any productivity. 🙂

What we have left to do:
* Tiling (24 full tiles, all the cut edges, grouting, trim, painting)
* Finish organizing office, make it a working office for two.
* Throw crap away to clean out the guestroom a bit.
* Clean bedroom, both baths, living room, dining room, kitchen, not pickup…CLEAN.
*Create a schedule for clean so I don't get so far behind.
* Clean/Organize garage.
* Plant rose bush (I might have to keep it inside for the winter, might have waited too long)
* Find/design place for herbs for winter.
And all that by Monday….ha!

So far the weekend looks to be busy:
* High School Muscial 2 Party at our house (I don’t know, Zach asked, I said okay)
* Saturday morning Zach wants to go into work for four hours.
* Sunday afternoon we are going swimming at a friend house.

Tomorrow I get to go to Gateway and help out with the Newspaper.  I’m so excited to just be around students and people again.  I stopped by yesterday and I didn’t realize how uneventful my days are now. 🙂  It was good to stop by, I’m glad Corrie and I have come to this arrangement and that my boss is okay with it.  It’s good.

Oh, and the last of my accomplishments.  I started the Couch to 5K running program last week (www.coolrunning.com for more info).  I’ve managed four days so far…..I completed week one and did my first day of week two yesterday.  The nice things, I get to take Lexi, I don’t get bored and I’m actually really enjoying it and my ankle only started to bug me yesterday, but I stretched it out and it’s doing fine now.  Guinness hates it because he is stuck at home alone, but I tried to take him once and he just causes problems, but that is for another blog.  Tomorrow will be day five or Week 2, Day 2. 🙂

This weekend we painted the house. We’ve been wanting to paint the house for the longest time…..probably since we moved in, but we couldn’t decide on colors. Finally we decided on colors and went for it. Anyway, I’m thrilled with the way it turned out. What do you all think?

The before shots were “under construction,” so I’m not posting them because there is a ladder in the way most of the time. 🙂 Sometimes I just don’t think. I found some old ones from when we moved in a year and a half ago, so it shows the change a bit.

1. Poor dogs were baby-gated upstairs and whined a lot.
2. Me painting

3. I HATE heights. They scare me almost to death, but look…..I got really high. 🙂

4. Late night, after we were done the first day. My dad gave us a attachment to the drill to stir the paint and Zach stirred the paint, pulled the stiring thing out and then pushed the button, so we got paint all over us, all over the floor, all over pretty much everything…….it was a mess.

5. Sad puppies.

6. Before:

7. After:

8. Zach and Guinness after it was all done.

Isn’t it the feeling of accomplishment wonderful? Tomorrow is our 1 year anniversary of buying our house, YAY, but that isn’t the accomplishment. Many of you have probably heard us complain about our banisters and their beautiful blue.

Before we bought the house, we had decided that if we did, the first thing we would do is change the banister. Well, some how many other home improvement projects moved in front of the banister and at the beginning of the year still nothing had happened. Ugh! With the holidays in the past, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to start this project. Our initial plan was to strip the paint down to the wood below and stain it. Well, we worked on it every weekend for about a month and ran out of steam. It seemed like we were getting nowhere. Two months later, we decided just painting over the blue was the way to go. So we spent a lot more time prepping it for paint and then about a day and a half priming it, painting it and repainting it, but it’s done!!!! And it feels great!

What do you think???

Other recent accomplishments: I’ve been working out fairly consistently and really enjoying it for about a week and a half. I can feel my muscles getting harder and maybe someday that will equate to losing a bit of fat.Okay, I have to leave you with these last few pictures. We haven’t been letting the dogs play in the backyard because we’ve been trying to grow some new grass. But when our neighbors aren’t out front, we let the dogs play out there. They are so much fun to watch and get so excited to run and play. Anyway, last week I was able to get a few good shots.

My babies: Lexi and Guinness

My honey, Zach, and Lexi

Hope you enjoyed the long story! I’m in such a good mood today. Only 9 more working days at TransUnion and then I get to be a teacher. Zach’s birthday is tomorrow and so it’s a super long weekend. What more could you ask for?

Oh, I just finished reading the Da Vinci Code and will be posting to Chocolate Soup soon, but it really wansn’t all it was hyped up to be.
